Allegiant Airlines started offering direct flights to Las Vegas just four months ago.
Business seemed to be good because flights have been at 80% capacity.
That is why airport officials were shocked to hear the news but they are telling local fliers good things are happening at the airport.
"As commissioners we are always looking for additional carriers. We'll keep doing that. Some might pop up on the screen. We had a air study down about 60 days ago which showed Las Vegas and Orlando as probably the top two places that we had leakage on that people were going and we are disappointed the Vegas route didn't work out," explained Paul Guilbeau, chairman of Lafayette Airport Commission.
Allegiant Airline's last day of service in Lafayette will be February 26.
If anyone has made reservations past that date, the airline will contact customers and give you a full refund.
