An early morning fire yesterday claimed the life of 28 year old Shawn Woods of Carencro.  Firefighters responded around 6:00 yesterday morning to a house fire at 112 Collins Street in Carencro.  Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke coming from the eaves and roof, and eventually the fire vented through the roof of the structure.  As firefighters forced entry into the dwelling they found 28 year old Shawn Woods deceased in a bedroom.  Woods lived at the residence with his father.

"He's going to be missed by a lot of people out there, and he's definitely going to be missed by me.  It's like a part of me that's gone now.  I'd just like to appeal to the public, when it comes to your children make every minute count, cause you never know when you're going to lose them.  It's just a tragic week for me, and hopefully God will give me the strength to make it through it and just keep those memories alive," says James Douglas Harris, father of Shawn.

Mr. Harris says James had been out the night before and came home early that morning.  The investigation and cause of fire is still ongoing, but Mr. Harris believes the cause of the fire was from a lit cigarette left unattended on the couch.
