21 weeks of horse racing starts tomorrow at Evangeline Downs
49th year of racing here in Cajun country
LAFAYETE (KADN) — Twenty-one weeks of horse racing starts tomorrow at Evangeline Downs. It will be the forty-ninth year of racing here in cajun country, with races going on from Wednesday through Saturday every week until August 30.
"One of the things about Louisiana that is so cool to me is the culture and the history. Evangeline Downs and horse racing has a really long and storied history and tradition here in south-central Louisiana especially," says John McGary, track announcer at Evangeline Downs.
Evangeline Downs has new exciting things this year including a re-arranged and upgraded stake schedule and a brand new race. Even though the Kentucky Derby is in Kentucky, it is the biggest and busiest day at Evangeline Downs who is already expecting over-crowding at the viewing the first weekend in May.
