The Lafayette Parish School Board will spend more than $2 million to improve Northside High School.

Northside High School is the lowest performing high school in Lafayette Parish and the school is currently at risk for a state takeover.

A new administrative staff will start today to get everyone up to speed with the changes that are coming.

The school held a meet and greet for parents, teachers, and members of the community.

"It just seemed like Northside was a perfect fit. From the standpoint of it was top of the list in needing facility renovations, bottom of the list in terms of its performance in our high schools. So for me that was a no brainer. We start here. And it doesn't matter whether these kids are at Northside, Carencro, Alice Boucher. They are children and the pilot here is to show how we are going to start treating children and teachers differently," explained Pat Cooper, LPSS Superintendent.

"By the way somebody said we are going to get some help from parents and groups. I'm inviting them now to come in and assist us at Northside because our money is very short and we want to get all the help that we can get," stated Shelton Cobb, LPSS Board President.

The Northside High School plan was approved by a 7 to1 vote at Wednesday night's school board meeting.
