Top 28 helps give Lafayette a boost
The yearly event brings premiere basketball to Acadiana
The Top 28 Boys Basketball Tournament has been in Lafayette since 1997. The tournament hosts the state semifinals and championship games each Spring.
That also means Lafayette tourism gets a much needed boost. Hoops fans from around the state travel to Acadiana to see their hometown teams play, and need to stay in local hotels and eat out at restaurants around town.
The lack of a local team in this year's field could hurt the overall attendance heading into this weekend's championship rounds but tournament officials aren't concerned.
