The senior slugger talks about his record-tying long ball
All it takes to bust into the record books for UL baseball is 40 swings. That's if all of those swings puts a fastball in the seats.
Scott Hawkins launched career homerun #39 over the right field wall Wednesday night against the Southern Jaguars. Those 39 bombs are good enough to tie Hawkins with Ron Robicheaux for the all-time lead in Cajun homers. Of course, one more would put him on top of the totem pole by himself.
When I asked Hawkins about it, he didn't really seem to be all that impressed with his accomplishment. He admitted that the record is nice but he and the rest of his teammates are more focused on bringing a conference championship back to Lafayette.
I caught up with Hawkins this week to talk about his record tying long ball.
