Drunken bus driver leads to policy change
LAFAYETT— Lafayette school bus drivers will now be suspended with pay or arrested if they are involved in drug or alcohol related driving incidents.
The procedures involving drivers with drug or alcohol incidents had not been set when Joseph Mire was arrested Sept 9.
Mire was charged with Operating While Intoxicated and speeding at 10:22 p.m. while in his own vehicle. His Blood Alchohol Content was above the .08 limit at .173.
Mire drove his bus route the next morning.
The Advertiser report drivers will now have to be cleared by a substance abuse professional before returning to their job.
