New Information On Sinkhole In Assumption Parish

Friday, August 10, 2012 - 8:54pm

There is new information on that still growing sinkhole in Assumption Parish.

The police jury tells FOX 44 news the hole grew by about 20 feet earlier this week.

It first developed last Friday near Bayou Corne.

An abandoned salt cavern is being eyed as possible cause of the sinkhole.

The cavern was abandoned by the Texas Brine Company in 2011.

Today in Gonzales, Texas Brine officials tried to explain their position to evacuated residents from Bayou Corne and pledged to help get them back into their homes as soon as possible.
