Federal Lawsuit Hits Lafayette Police Department

The federal lawsuit against Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft filed by a total of nine current and former Lafayette Police Officers has really stirred up talk on both sides.

The suit alleges widespread corruption within the department along with racial discrimination and preferential  treatment.

Chief Craft called a press conference last Thursday calling those allegations baseless and just a purposeful attempt to dishonor the Lafyette Police Department and those who serve with honor and courage.

This morning Mayor President Joey Durel fully backed Chief Craft and his officers.

Durel says he's going to talk to Louisiana State Police next.

Currently the Lafaytette City Police Department is investigating fifteen officers in connection with the leaked internal affairs document.

The Lafayette Police Department currently employs three hundred twenty people.
