New text law goes into effect
A new law will go into effect this week, changing the way people communicate on the road.
It's now a primary offense to text and drive. Police will be able to pull you over for texting, even if you're not breaking any other laws. Prior to the change, the driver would have to be breaking another law.
Troopers say it will make Louisiana roads a lot safer.
Drivers caught texting behind the wheel will face a fine of $175 on their first offense and up to $500 for repeat offenders.
