Heavy rain possible

Tropical Wave may strengthen, spreading heavy rain

Wednesday, August 31, 2011 - 6:24pm

A large Tropical Wave continues to move West-Northwest at 10-15mph through the Eastern Gulf of Mexico. At this time the area remains disorganized with upper level winds not supporting any rapid development. There is some potential for a Tropical Depression even a Tropical Storm to develop in the Western or Central Gulf over the next couple of days. The National Hurricane Center has raised the chance,60%, for Tropical development. The biggest threats to our area looks to be heavy rainfall and some minor coastal flooding over the weekend. Of course if the systems develops we could see higher winds. This looks like the best chance for beneficial rainfall. The coastal parishes could receive 2-10 inch rainfall totals and further inland 2-8 inches
