UPDATED -- The blaze at the chemical plant in New Iberia is out and residents have been allowed back into their homes.
The evacuation order was put in place on Tuesday after the explosion at the Multi-Chem Corp.
After the fire finally burned out, the evacuation order was lifted yesterday morning.
No one was injured in the explosion and the cause is still under investigation.
UPDATED -- The fire at a chemical plant in New Iberia is under control as of last night.
This is the latest word from local officials.
The blaze happen after several explosions at the Multi-Chem Corp.
Once the fire is completely out, officials said they will be able to go in and figure out what sparked it.
Three businesses and several homes in a one mile radius had to be evacuated.
Original Story -- Iberia Parish- Personnel from Williams Firefighting and Haz-Mat Control arrived this morning in New Iberia. Utilizing State Police Air Support, workers flew over the site to determine the best way to safely approach the fire to extinguish it.
Currently they are working to put the plan into action and should implement the plan this afternoon. The evacuation area remains the same, and it will remain in place until it is safe for the public to return.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
