Authorities release name of stabbing victim
Detectives have released the name of the stabbing victim as 14-year-old Joseph Nelson of Lafayette.

UPDATE: Juvenile Arrested in Homicide
On September 19, 2010, at approximately 3:00 pm, detectives with the Lafayette Police Department booked a 14 year old male juvenile into the Lafayette Juvenile Detention Home, charging him with 2nd Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery. The suspect is alleged to have cut a second victim during the altercation. The second juvenile victim was transported to an area hospital, treated and released. The suspect’s name is not being release because he is a juvenile. The case remains under investigation.
Stabbing Victim Dies From Injuries
On September 18, 2010, at approximately 9:00 pm, officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to the intersection of Cameron Street and St. John regarding a male victim lying on the ground with a stab wound. Officers arrived on scene to discover a 14 year old black male with a single stab wound to the chest area. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead. According to witnesses, a disturbance occurred near the intersection involving the victim. Three young black males where seen running from the victims location immediately after the stabbing.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
