Alleged shooter caught by police

On Wednesday, Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department arrested 23-year-old Jeremy Lee White without incident and charged him with attempted 1st degree murder. White is allegedly shot a 46-year-old victim during a drug transaction in the 400 block of St. Charles Street. The case remains under investigation.

On October 12, 2010, at approximately 9:50 am, a Lafayette Police Officer was flagged down in a parking lot in the 1800 block of the NE Evangeline Thruway regarding a male victim with a gunshot wound. The complainant advised the officer that the victim, a 46 year old male of New Iberia, had been shot once in the stomach while involved in a disturbance in the 400 block of St. Charles Street. Investigators discovered that the victim went near a residence to meet with multiple suspects to buy illegal drugs when a disturbance erupted. The victim attempted to flee the situation, but was shot once in the mid section while entering his truck. The victim, along with a female occupant, drove to the 1800 block of the NE Evangeline Thruway.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and then released.
Detectives are interviewing the female witness and those persons in the area of the shooting to develop a possible suspect. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the shooting or the identity of the suspect to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
