Though the Saints won a hard-fought victory against the Chargers last weekend, their celebrations were dampened by tough news from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. He has re-issed suspensions to the Saints players accused of involvement in the bounty scandal. Both players allegedly involved in the bounty-gate scandal remain suspended.
Linebacker Jonathan Vilma remains suspended for the season but will retain the salary he received while on the "physically unable to perform" list. Defensive End Will Smith remains suspended for four games.
The two other players allegedly involved had their suspensions reduced. Scott Fujita saw his punishment drop from 3 games to just one game, and Anthony Hargrove was reduced from 8 games to 7.
Goodell's original suspensions to the players were overturned on appeal last month, immediately reinstating the players' eligibility for the 2012 season. The players can still appeal once again.
