Growing up in Wisconsin, Jesse Gunkel fell in love with weather after witnessing a tornado. He spent countless hours watching thunderstorms pass from his front porch. Jesse’s love for math and science led him to study meteorology.

Jesse received his degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography. Jesse is also a member of the American Meteorological Society.

Before coming to Baton Rouge, Jesse worked at Weather Central, Inc. As an intern, he had the responsibility of providing forecasts and graphics for both local and national newspapers all over the country. As a full time employee, he trained, installed, and developed their interactive weather software for national and international television stations. Because of the opportunity, he has been in nearly every state in the United States. Jesse still hopes to accomplish Alaska one of these days.

For fun, he likes anything that involves the outdoors. Jesse is a big fan of football, baseball, fishing, and boating. To show his dedication, he even fished on ice with temperatures in the -20’s with the wind chill.

Although he considers himself a true Badger, Jesse is looking forward to the LSU season and being surrounded by passionate fans. He is eager to discover what the "Red Stick" is all about.
